Official Opening of Heckington Windmill – Runtime 47mins
This charming film tells the story of the amazing day in 2017 when Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal officially opened the Heckington Windmill Regeneration Project. The culmination of over a decade’s work by Heckington Windmill Trust the project has restored and re-invigorated the entire windmill complex. With the on-site bakehouse and micro-brewery, the Edwardian Miller’s House and a first-class visitor’s centre the project has created something unique in the United Kingdom.
The Trust raised over £1.6m including the largest ever Heritage Lottery Fund grant to a mill project of £1.4m, made possible by National Lottery players
This remarkable project has only been achieved because of the enthusiasm and commitment of the local community to the windmill which is at its heart. This film captures the excitement as members, friends and supporters gather for the opening day. We accompany the Princess as she explores the windmill and Miller’s House and have a front row position for the formal opening ceremony. The story is rounded off with interviews with a number of the people involved in delivering the project and making the big day happen.
